Are you interested in volunteering for Columbus Humane?
Not only will you learn about animals and get lots of licks and tail wags, but you will also meet others who share similar interests.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Dog Care
- Dog Training
- Cat Care
- Rabbit Care
- Administrative Assistance
- Special Events
- And more!
Completion of our Skills Training, Engagement and Practice for Success (STEPS) program is required to become a regular volunteer with the Columbus Humane Society. Designed for adults and students ages 12 and up, STEPS consists of 21 hours of classroom, clinic and mentored learning about the fundamentals of caring for animals as well as the mission and philosophies of the Columbus Humane Society. Applications for STEPS are available by clicking on the link below or you can pick one up at the shelter. These are competitive applications and space is limited, so submitting an application does not automatically mean you are in the class.
The STEPS program is proudly sponsored by Schoedinger Pet Services. Thanks to their support, each STEPS class participant receives a training manual, volunteer t-shirt and photo ID badge. We ask all incoming volunteers to make a one-time mission investment of $30. All participants choose a program area to receive their personal investment.
Applications (students age 12-15 must have an adult also fill out an application as well as waiver for their student and attend all sessions and volunteer with them. Students 16-17 must have parent or guardian fill out waiver.)
2018 STEPS Classes:
1/27 through 2/17 (Saturdays) - FULL
3/6 through 3/27 (Tuesdays)
4/21 through 5/12 (Saturdays)

*Please note that junior volunteers, ages 12-15, will need a parent or guardian to fill out a separate application on their behalf, attend the STEPS training, and accompany their junior volunteer at all times.
*Waivers will be signed on the first day of class.
