AdvoCAT Spay/Neuter Voucher
Program
The AdvoCAT Spay & Neuter Voucher Program has been
made possible by the generous support of the
Franklin County Commissioners
and donors to the AdvoCAT Spay &
Neuter Fund of the Capital Area Humane Society.
· Veterinary
clinics agree to participate in the program and honor the voucher in exchange
for a free spay or neuter surgery and rabies vaccination for your cat, which is
then reimbursed by the Humane Society.
· Limited
to Franklin County residents.
· Program
for clients in low income neighborhoods, Good Samaritans willing
to take in stray cat they found and referrals from humane agents.
· Only
one voucher per household per year.
· Vouchers
are good for 45 days after the
date of issue. If your voucher expires, no further vouchers will be issued
to you.
What
about feral cats?
This program is not intended for feral cats. The Capital Area Humane
Society has for many years provided free spay/neuter services for as many
established feral cat caregivers as our resources allow through the Feral Fix
program. We continue to strengthen that program in order to reduce the number of
feral cats in Central Ohio. The AdvoCAT Spay & Neuter Voucher Program
focuses on providing support and resources to clients willing to keep and work
with socialized cats. Ultimately, increasing the number of altered owned cats
will also help decrease the number of feral cats by preventing the birth of
unwanted kittens vulnerable to abandonment.

Subsidized
Spay and Neuter Clinics
The
Capital Area Humane Society hosts subsidized Spay & Neuter Clinics monthly with
services provided by Shelter Outreach Services of Ohio (SOS).
SOS works with rescue groups/shelters to offer spay/neuter programs to
serve both homeless pets and pets from low income families that are in need of
subsidized veterinary care.
· Appointment
required. Same day drop-off and
pick-up.
· Available
to cats only. The cost is $35 for
male cats and $55 for female cats.

people who can demonstrate they are low income.
To demonstrate that you are low income, you must simply provide a copy of
a statement or payment stub indicating receipt of any form of government
assistance.
· Payment
must be received in advance to confirm the appointment.
When the Humane Society calls to confirm, you will have one week to send
in proof of income status and prepay for the surgical service.
Payment for vaccinations or other services will not be required in
advance.
Feral Fix
The Capital Area Humane Society’s Feral Fix
Program is designed to support the work of feral cat caregivers by providing
access to spay and neuter services for ferals involved in TNR (Trap, Neuter and
Return) programs throughout Central Ohio.
· Application
and appointment required.
· The Humane
Society generally designates one day each week as a “feral cat” spay and neuter
day. Trapped ferals are dropped off by their caregivers in the morning,
and picked up for post surgical observation later that same day.
· Each cat
receives testing for Feleuk and FIV and spay or neuter surgery, as well as
vaccinations and ear-tipping for future identification.
· Microchipping
is also available (at the caregivers request) at the Humane Society’s cost
(currently $5) for the chip, implantation and registration.
· Due to
concerns of spreading dangerous viral diseases to other cats in the community,
those cats that test positive for feline leukemia or FIV will be humanely
euthanized while under anesthesia.
